BTW to PDF

Convert BarTender .btw files to PDF without BarTender. Upload a BarTender document or a .btc component and LabelZoom draws the label at its own page size, as a PDF anyone can open, review or print, whether or not their computer has BarTender on it.

Preview: LabelZoom’s BarTender rendering is the newest addition to our engine and still improving. Most labels come out right, but some elements — computed fields and formatted bar code data especially — may not match your printer perfectly. If a label doesn’t look right, let us know — reports go straight into what we fix next.

On-screen barcodes: A barcode that won’t scan off your screen isn’t necessarily wrong. Browser PDF viewers redraw the page at whatever zoom fits the window, and that rounding thickens or drops the hairline bars a scanner needs. The PDF keeps the exact geometry underneath — print it, or zoom in first, and the barcodes scan normally.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about converting BarTender .btw files to PDF.

What is a .btw file?
A .btw file is a label document saved by BarTender, Seagull Scientific's label design software. It holds the label's page setup and every object on it: text, bar codes, lines, shapes and pictures, along with the data sources those objects read from. A .btc file is a BarTender component, a reusable piece of a label saved on its own.
Can I open a BarTender file without BarTender?
Yes. Upload the .btw or .btc file above and LabelZoom renders the label as a PDF page. You don't need BarTender, a BarTender license or a printer driver on the machine. A .btw document comes out at its own page size; a .btc component has no page of its own, so it comes back sized to its content.
What happens to fields that read from a database or a script?
Each field shows the sample value saved in the document. Values BarTender works out only at print time, such as the current date, a script's result or some database fields, have no sample, so those fields come out empty, and a bar code that uses one is left off rather than drawn with part of its data missing. To fill fields with real data, convert through the REST API and pass the values in the request.
Are the bar codes right?
Nearly always. GS1 bar codes carry their application identifiers, and the check digits BarTender adds when printing are added here too. A few settings aren't read yet: HIBC bar codes are missing their + flag and check character, fixed-width padding and leading zeros in formatted fields aren't applied, and UPC and EAN add-ons are left out. The readable line under a bar code shows its raw data rather than BarTender's formatted text. Scan the bar codes on a converted label before you print it in volume.
Which BarTender files don't convert?
Password-protected documents, documents with more than one template, and very old documents. Within a label, tables, grids, rich text, RFID and magnetic stripe objects are left out, as are shapes turned at angles other than a quarter turn, and a few symbologies such as GS1 Composite and Code 16K. Colors become black or white, and italic text prints upright.
