Amazon ZPL Label to PDF

Open a ZPL shipping label from Amazon when you don't have a Zebra printer. A .zpl file is printer code, so it shows up as text in Notepad. Paste it or upload it here to see the label and download a PDF for any printer.

Have a Zebra printer? Send the ZPL to it directly. Printing product labels instead? Try the FNSKU label generator.

On-screen barcodes: A barcode that won’t scan off your screen isn’t necessarily wrong. Browser PDF viewers redraw the page at whatever zoom fits the window, and that rounding thickens or drops the hairline bars a scanner needs. The PDF keeps the exact geometry underneath — print it, or zoom in first, and the barcodes scan normally.

See the label before you spend a sheet of stock on it, including barcodes and the carrier's graphics.

Labels written for 300 dpi are detected, so a 203 dpi preview doesn't come out oversized.

Nothing to install: it runs in the browser on Windows, Mac and Chromebooks.

Three ways to print a ZPL label

What you do with the file depends on the printer on your desk. Converting isn't always the best route: a ZPL printer prints the file as it is, with no watermark.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers about opening and printing ZPL labels from Amazon.

Why did Amazon give me a .zpl file?
ZPL is the command language of Zebra label printers. Amazon's shipping services can return a label as PDF, PNG or ZPL depending on the carrier, so a ZPL file usually means the label was set up for a thermal printer. The file is plain text, which is why opening it shows commands rather than a label.
Why does my label print as lines of text?
The ZPL went to a printer that doesn't read it, or through a driver that treated it as a document. An office printer prints the commands as text. Either convert the file to PDF here, or send it to a ZPL printer as raw data, without a driver's page handling.
Is converting an Amazon ZPL label free?
Yes, any single label converts free, with a small watermark on the PDF. Converting every label in a file at once, and removing the watermark, is part of a paid plan. If your file holds several labels, choose the one you need in the converter.
Can I get a PDF from Amazon instead?
Often, yes. If the screen where you buy shipping lets you choose a PDF or PNG label, that's the shorter route for a printer without ZPL. The carrier decides which formats are available, so a ZPL-only label is where this page helps.
My label comes out too big or too small. Why?
ZPL positions are in printer dots, so a label written for a 300 dpi printer draws larger when it's read as 203 dpi. Amazon India's shipping labels are one example: they're 300 dpi and don't declare a width. The converter works out the density from the label's content where it can, and you can change it by hand.
What size should I print the PDF at?
Print at 100%, with scaling or fit-to-page turned off, on stock that matches the label, usually 4 × 6 in. Scaling a barcode changes its bar widths, which can stop it scanning.
Is my shipping label stored?
Shipping labels carry customer names and addresses, so treat them with care. On Pro plans and above, label payloads are not retained after conversion. If your work needs that guarantee, use a paid plan.
