Fingerprint to ZPL

Convert Honeywell Fingerprint labels to ZPL for Zebra printers. Fingerprint reads like BASIC, with colon-chained statements counted from the bottom of the label, and ZPL is caret commands counted from the top. Paste a Fingerprint or Direct Protocol job here and LabelZoom reads each field, works out where it lands, and writes native ZPL II that prints the same label on a Zebra.

Want to see the original first? Fingerprint viewer. Need a document? Fingerprint to PDF. Other migrations: IPL to ZPL, DPL to ZPL.

Preview: LabelZoom’s Fingerprint reader is the newest in our engine and still improving. Compare the converted ZPL against a known-good print before rolling a format out. If something doesn’t match, let us know — reports go straight into what we fix next.

Every text, barcode, line and box field comes out as a ZPL object you can edit.

How to convert Fingerprint to ZPL

  1. 1

Paste the Fingerprint job above, or upload it. A job exported from BarTender often starts with a Seagull:2.1:DP header and a setup block; leave both in.

  2. 2

Set the density to the resolution of the Zebra that will print the label, 203 or 300 dpi.

  3. 3

Click Quick Convert, then copy or download the ZPL, or send it to a connected Zebra. Fine-tune fonts in the ZPL editor.

How Fingerprint statements map to ZPL

Fingerprint settings are sticky, as they are on the printer: a font or direction set once applies to every field after it until the job changes it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about migrating Honeywell Fingerprint jobs to ZPL.

Who needs Fingerprint to ZPL?
Sites replacing Honeywell PM, PX or PD printers with Zebras, and sites running both. The label templates that drove the Honeywell printers are usually Fingerprint or Direct Protocol jobs generated by BarTender or a WMS, and a Zebra can't read them. Converting the jobs gives you ZPL to test on the new printers, or to hand to whoever rebuilds the templates.
Is the result editable ZPL?
Yes. Each Fingerprint field is read as an object and written as the ZPL that means the same thing, so a PT text field becomes ^FO, ^A and ^FD, a PB barcode becomes the matching ^B command, and PL and PX lines and boxes become ^GB. You can open the output in a ZPL editor and change it like any hand-written label.
Does the position of each field carry over?
Fingerprint places each field at a PP position with a direction (DIR) and an anchor point (ALIGN), counting from a different corner than ZPL does. The converter works all of that out and writes each field at the matching ZPL origin and rotation. Positions are in dots at the density you choose, so set it to the resolution of the Zebra you're moving to.
What won't convert?
Images sent with PRIMAGE or PRBUF, BASIC logic such as IF and GOTO, and print-time data merged through FORMAT INPUT. A field that would have been filled by FORMAT INPUT comes across with its placeholder text, ready for you to replace with a ZPL field number. Barcode types outside Code 39, Code 128, Code 93, EAN, UPC, Interleaved 2 of 5 and QR Code are left out.
Can I convert a whole template library?
Yes, through the REST API: post each job to the Fingerprint to ZPL conversion and save the result. Paid API plans have no watermark. Compare a few converted labels against real Honeywell prints before you switch the production line over.
