Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about ZPL conversion and LabelZoom.

How does PDF to EPL conversion work?
Our engine renders each PDF page at your printer's exact resolution (203, 300, or 600 DPI), converts it to a crisp 1-bit monochrome bitmap tuned for thermal printing, and encodes the result as print-ready EPL (Eltron Programming Language) commands. What you see in the preview is what your printer produces.
Why not just print the PDF directly?
Many warehouses still run Zebra LP2844-class printers, which speak EPL2 rather than ZPL. Sending native EPL means the printer receives exactly the dots to print, with no driver in the path — the same reason ZPL beats driver printing on newer hardware.
Which printers use EPL?
EPL (Eltron Programming Language) is spoken by Zebra's LP/TLP 2824 and 2844 families and other printers inherited from the Eltron line. If your printer predates ZPL support, or you have existing EPL templates you need to match, EPL is the format you want.
