EPL to PDF

Turn Eltron Programming Language into a PDF you can open, print and file without an LP2844 in the room. LabelZoom interprets the EPL2 commands natively — text, barcodes, lines and inline GW bitmaps — and renders the label as a true-size PDF page. Useful for archiving what a legacy system printed, sharing a template with someone who has no thermal printer, and reviewing old formats before a fleet migration.

On-screen barcodes: A barcode that won’t scan off your screen isn’t necessarily wrong. Browser PDF viewers redraw the page at whatever zoom fits the window, and that rounding thickens or drops the hairline bars a scanner needs. The PDF keeps the exact geometry underneath — print it, or zoom in first, and the barcodes scan normally.

How to convert EPL to PDF

    Copy the EPL from your template, capture file or shipping system export — it starts with N and ends with P1 — and paste it above, or upload the file. Uploading is safer for labels with GW graphics, which contain binary bytes a clipboard can mangle.

    Leave the density at 203 dpi (every Eltron-era printer is 203) and set the label size in inches if it is not 4 × 6.

Where does EPL come from, and why would I have a file of it?
EPL (Eltron Programming Language, EPL2 in its common form) is the command language of the Eltron desktop printers Zebra acquired — the LP2844, TLP2844 and their relatives. Anything that printed to one of those printers produced EPL: old WMS label templates, carrier integrations from the 2000s, port captures, and the label formats stored in a legacy shipping system. It looks like N, then A and B commands with coordinates, then P1.
Does the PDF include GW graphics and barcodes?
Yes. LabelZoom's EPL reader interprets the whole command set that matters on a label — A text fields, B barcodes, LO and LE lines, and GW inline bitmaps, which are read by their declared byte count so binary logo data survives intact. Each is rendered as the printer would draw it, then placed on a PDF page the size of the label.
How accurate is the rendering?
Close, and improving. EPL support is newer than our ZPL engine: the everyday commands render faithfully, and the corpus we test against is drawn from real production templates, but unusual font and barcode combinations may still differ from a specific printer's firmware. If a label looks wrong, tell us — reports feed directly into what gets fixed next.
What page size will the PDF be?
The label size you set — 4 × 6 inches by default — at the density you choose. Eltron-era printers are 203 dpi, so leave that setting alone unless you know otherwise. The PDF prints at true size on any office printer, which is the usual reason for converting: a legacy label archive that can be opened without the legacy printer.
