ESC/Label ViewerPreview

View Epson ColorWorks labels online, in color. Paste an ESC/Label job — ZPL II plus Epson's ^F(C colors, ^S(CLS media size and ~DY PNG images — and see the label your CW-C4000 or CW-C6000 would print, at the job's own resolution, before you spend color ink and label stock on a test.

Plain Zebra code with no Epson commands? Use the ZPL viewer. Also available: IPL, TSPL and SBPL viewers.

Preview: LabelZoom’s ESC/Label rendering is the newest addition to our engine and still improving. Most labels come out right, but some elements — color overlays and uncommon barcode options especially — may not match your printer perfectly. If a label doesn’t look right, let us know — reports go straight into what we fix next.

How to view an ESC/Label job online

  1. 1

Get the job your system sends to the ColorWorks printer: a print-to-file from your label software, or the template your ERP fills in.

  2. 2

Paste it above, or upload the file if it carries PNG images as raw bytes. Leave the label size on Auto-detect to use the job's own ^S(CLS size.

  3. 3

Click Quick Preview to see the label in color, then save it as a PNG or a PDF.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about viewing Epson ColorWorks ESC/Label jobs with LabelZoom.

What is ESC/Label?
ESC/Label is the command language of Epson ColorWorks color label printers, such as the CW-C4000 and CW-C6000 series. It is built on ZPL II, so a job opens with ^XA, places fields with ^FO and closes with ^XZ, and Epson adds its own commands for color and media. Epson names each of its additions with a parenthesis: ^F(C sets a field's foreground and background color, ^S(CLS sets the media size, and ^S(CLR sets the resolution the job is written at.
Is ESC/Label the same as ESC/POS?
No. ESC/POS is Epson's binary command set for receipt printers, and it shares nothing with ESC/Label beyond the name. If your file is mostly unreadable bytes and comes from a point-of-sale printer, it is ESC/POS, which this viewer doesn't read. If it reads like ZPL with ^F(C and ^S(CLS commands mixed in, it is ESC/Label.
Why does my ColorWorks label look three times too big in a ZPL viewer?
Resolution. A ZPL viewer assumes Zebra's 203 dpi, but an ESC/Label job is written at 600 dpi unless it declares otherwise with ^S(CLR or ^MU. Coordinates meant for 600 dpi read at 203 dpi land about three times further apart. A ZPL viewer also ignores ^F(C, so the label loses its color. This viewer reads the job at its own resolution and keeps the color.
Are color images in the job shown?
Yes. ColorWorks jobs download full-color PNG images with ~DY and place them with ^IM or ^IL, and the viewer draws them in color. If your job carries the PNG as raw bytes rather than as hex, upload the file instead of pasting it, so the image bytes arrive intact.
