ESC/Label to PDF

Convert Epson ColorWorks ESC/Label jobs to a true-size color PDF. LabelZoom reads the ZPL II fields and Epson's own commands, keeps every field color and PNG image, and lays the label out at the job's 600 dpi format resolution, so the PDF is the label the CW-C4000 or CW-C6000 would print.

Just checking a job? Use the ESC/Label viewer. Printing on a Zebra? ESC/Label to ZPL. Other languages: ZPL, IPL, SBPL.

Preview: LabelZoom’s ESC/Label rendering is the newest addition to our engine and still improving. Most labels come out right, but some elements — color overlays and uncommon barcode options especially — may not match your printer perfectly. If a label doesn’t look right, let us know — reports go straight into what we fix next.

On-screen barcodes: A barcode that won’t scan off your screen isn’t necessarily wrong. Browser PDF viewers redraw the page at whatever zoom fits the window, and that rounding thickens or drops the hairline bars a scanner needs. The PDF keeps the exact geometry underneath — print it, or zoom in first, and the barcodes scan normally.

A color PDF: field colors, backgrounds and PNG images intact.

Laid out at the job's own resolution, 600 dpi unless it says otherwise.

Proof brand colors before a run of expensive glossy stock.

How to convert ESC/Label to PDF

  1. 1

Paste the ESC/Label job above, or upload the file. Upload is the safer choice when the job embeds PNG images as raw bytes.

  2. 2

Leave the label size on Auto-detect to use the size in the job's ^S(CLS command, or pick one to override it.

  3. 3

Click Quick Preview, check the colors, and download the PDF.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about converting Epson ColorWorks ESC/Label jobs to PDF.

Does the PDF keep the label's colors?
Yes. Every ^F(C field color comes across, both the foreground and the background behind a field, including its transparency. Color PNG images downloaded with ~DY are placed in full color. The PDF is a color document you can proof on screen or print on an office color printer.
What size is the PDF page?
The size the job declares, read from Epson's ^S(CLS width and length or from ZPL's ^PW and ^LL, at the job's own resolution. Choose a label size above to override it, or leave it on Auto-detect. A job with no declared size is sized from where its content lands.
Why would I convert ESC/Label to PDF?
To proof a color label before it goes to the printer: brand colors, hazard panels and the like are expensive to get wrong across a roll of glossy stock. A PDF is also how you send a ColorWorks template to a customer, a regulator or a coworker who has no Epson printer, and how you keep a record of what a job printed.
Does the density setting change my label?
No. The job's coordinates are always read at its own resolution, which is 600 dpi unless it declares another with ^S(CLR or ^MU. The density setting never moves or resizes anything on the label, so the page size and layout stay the same whichever you choose.
