EZPL to ZPL

Convert GoDEX EZPL labels to ZPL for Zebra printers. EZPL writes one field per line with no prefix, such as AC,148,40,1,1,0,0,LOT 4471, while ZPL builds each field from caret commands. Paste the EZPL job here and LabelZoom reads every field between ^L and E and writes ZPL II that a GK, ZD or ZT series Zebra prints as the same label.

Want to see the GoDEX label first? EZPL viewer. Need a document instead? EZPL to PDF. Other migrations: EPL to ZPL, TSPL to ZPL.

Preview: The EZPL reader is new and hasn’t been checked against a GoDEX printer yet; it follows GoDEX’s programming manual and the customer jobs we’ve seen. Test the ZPL on a Zebra against a known-good GoDEX print before you roll a template out. If they differ, send us both.

Text, barcodes and boxes arrive as ZPL fields, not a bitmap.

How to convert EZPL to ZPL

  1. 1

Paste the EZPL job above or upload it. Keep the ^Q and ^W lines at the top: with the label size on Auto-detect, they set the ^PW and ^LL the ZPL is written with.

  2. 2

Pick the resolution of the Zebra that will print the result, 203 or 300 dpi.

  3. 3

Click Quick Convert, then copy or download the ZPL, or send it to a connected Zebra. Adjust fields in the ZPL editor if you need to.

How EZPL commands map to ZPL

Setup lines such as ^H darkness and ^S speed describe the printer, not the label, so they don't carry over; set those on the Zebra.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers about moving GoDEX EZPL label jobs onto Zebra printers.

Who converts EZPL to ZPL?
Hospitals, labs and warehouses adding Zebra printers next to GoDEX ones, or replacing GoDEX outright, whose software only knows how to write EZPL. Software vendors use it too: one ZPL template prints on a Zebra and, in most cases, on a GoDEX switched to its GZPL emulation, so a converted template can serve both fleets.
Do I get real ZPL, or a picture of the label?
Real ZPL. Each EZPL line is read as a field and written as the ZPL that draws the same thing: an A text line becomes ^FO, ^A and ^FD, a B barcode the matching ^B command, and Lo boxes and R rectangles become ^GB. Text and barcode data stay editable, so you can change a field in a ZPL editor or replace it with a ^FN variable.
Will fields stay where they were?
Yes, at the same resolution. Both languages count in dots from the top-left corner, and the converter folds in the ^R left margin and ~Q vertical offset that EZPL applies to every field. EZPL turns a field clockwise about its own corner, and each rotation is rewritten as the ZPL orientation that lands in the same place. Set the density to the Zebra's print head, since the dots are read at that resolution.
What doesn't come across?
Anything kept in the GoDEX printer's memory rather than in the job: Y image recalls, downloaded fonts and formats stored with ^F and recalled with ^K. Whole-label rotation from ^XSET,ROTATION or ^LR isn't applied. Date, time and variable fields (^D, ^T, ^V) come across as the text in the job, ready for you to swap in a ZPL ^FN field or the real value. Postal barcodes and Micro PDF417 are dropped.
Can I convert a folder of EZPL templates?
Yes, with the REST API: send each file to the EZPL to ZPL conversion and save what comes back. Paid API plans return output without a watermark. Print a handful of converted labels on the Zebra and compare them with GoDEX prints before switching production over.
