EZPL to PDF

Convert GoDEX EZPL label jobs to PDF. Paste the commands your application sends to a G500, RT700 or EZ-2000 series printer and download each label as a true-size PDF page that opens on any computer. LabelZoom interprets the EZPL itself, so with the label size on Auto-detect the page takes its width and length from the millimeter values in the job’s ^W and ^Q lines.

Only need a quick look? Open the EZPL viewer. Adding Zebra printers? EZPL to ZPL. Other languages: EPL, TSPL, ZPL.

Preview: LabelZoom reads EZPL from GoDEX’s programming manual and real customer jobs, and the output hasn’t yet been compared with a print from a GoDEX printer. Check a PDF against a real label before you rely on it for sign-off. If something is off, tell us and include the job.

On-screen barcodes: A barcode that won’t scan off your screen isn’t necessarily wrong. Browser PDF viewers redraw the page at whatever zoom fits the window, and that rounding thickens or drops the hairline bars a scanner needs. The PDF keeps the exact geometry underneath — print it, or zoom in first, and the barcodes scan normally.

Every label format in the job, from ^L to E, becomes one page.

Media size in millimeters from ^W and ^Q, the way the printer reads it.

Share the label with anyone: a PDF needs no GoDEX software.

How to convert EZPL to PDF

  1. 1

Copy the EZPL your system produces, including the ^Q and ^W setup lines above the first ^L, and paste it above or upload the file.

  2. 2

Choose the print head's resolution, 203 or 300 dpi; EZPL positions are in dots, so this sets the scale. Set the label size to Auto-detect to use the job's own media size.

  3. 3

Click Quick Preview, check each label, and download the PDF.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers about turning GoDEX EZPL label jobs into PDF documents.

When is a PDF of an EZPL label useful?
Whenever someone without a GoDEX printer needs to see the label. A PDF can go to a quality team signing off a new patient wristband, to a customer approving their carton label, or into the ticket for a label that printed wrong. It also lets you check what a new release of your software sends before the job reaches a ward or a warehouse.
What size is the page?
EZPL jobs normally set the media in millimeters: ^W gives the label width, and ^Q gives the length followed by the gap between labels. Set the label size above to Auto-detect and the PDF page uses that width and length; a job that sets neither is sized from where its fields land, rounded up to the half inch. Any other size you pick replaces the job's own.
How many pages will I get?
One for each label format in the job. Every format runs from a ^L line to an E line, and the E is what tells the printer to print it, so a job with three formats becomes a three-page PDF. A job that only changes printer settings has no format and produces no pages; the converter tells you so instead of returning an empty file.
Which barcodes are drawn?
The linear B types for Code 39, Code 93, Code 128, GS1-128, EAN-8, EAN-13, UPC-A, UPC-E, Interleaved 2 of 5, Codabar and MSI, plus GS1 DataBar, with the human-readable line where the job asks for it. In 2D, W QR codes, XRB DataMatrix, P PDF417, MaxiCode and Aztec. Postal symbologies and Micro PDF417 are left off the page.
Why do some fields show placeholder text?
Date, time and variable fields (^D, ^T and ^V) are filled in by the printer when it prints, so the PDF shows the field as the job writes it. Images and fonts stored in the printer's memory aren't in the job at all, so a Y image recall is skipped and text in a downloaded font is drawn in a standard face.
