IPL to PDF

Turn an Intermec print stream into a PDF you can open, print and file without the printer. LabelZoom interprets IPL natively — the framed statements, the E1;F1; form header, its text and barcode field definitions, and the UDC bitmaps downloaded in Program mode — honours the dot-based positions, and renders the label as a true-size PDF page. Useful for archiving what a system printed, sending a template to someone with no thermal printer, and reviewing formats before a fleet migration.

How to convert IPL to PDF

    Copy the IPL job from your template, capture file or export — it is framed statements starting with a form header — and paste it above, or upload the file. Both the readable-character and raw-byte forms are fine.

    Pick 203 or 300 dpi to match the Intermec model the job was written for, and set the label size in inches if it is not 4 × 6.

What does an IPL job look like?
A sequence of statements, each wrapped in its own STX/ETX frame. The job starts in Program mode, a form header such as E1;F1; erases and re-creates the format, and then each field arrives as one statement: an H field for text with its origin, font and magnification, a B field for a barcode with its symbology and height, a G definition with u columns for a downloaded bitmap, and a U field to place it. R closes the format, a format-select statement follows, and an ETB ends the batch.
Which parts of an IPL job does the PDF rendering cover?
What production labels are made of: text fields with the internal and scalable fonts, the barcode symbologies the language defines, lines and boxes, and UDC bitmaps — the graphics IPL has no inline command for, which are downloaded in Program mode and placed with U fields. Positioning, rotation and magnification are honoured; printer set-up commands that do not affect the printed image are ignored.
How accurate is the rendering?
Close, and improving. IPL support is the newest reader in our engine: everyday formats render faithfully and are tested against real job streams, but an exotic field option or a rarely used symbology may still differ from a specific printer's firmware. If a label looks wrong, tell us — reports go directly into what gets fixed next.
What page size and resolution will the PDF be?
The label size you set, at the density you choose — 203 dpi for most PM43 and PC43 models, 300 dpi for the high-resolution variants. IPL positions are expressed in printer dots, so matching the density to the model the job was written for keeps every field where Intermec put it.
